Is it Time to Change Your Oil?

You probably know that you need to periodically change your oil. However, while almost everyone knows that they need to change their oil every so often, not everyone knows why, and not everyone knows how often it needs to be changed either. So, what exactly does your engine oil do? We're glad you asked.

The engine in your Subaru is made out of many different moving parts all working together in harmony. As your engine runs, and all these parts rub against each other, they begin to create heat. This causes your engine to overheat and break down... or at least, it would cause that to happen if you didn't have any oil. The oil in your engine lubricates the moving parts, reducing friction, and even carrying away excess heat. Oil is vital for the well-being of your engine.

That's a very important role, but unfortunately your oil won't last forever. The heat that would normally break down your engine instead starts to break down your oil. As time goes by, your oil will become less and less effective, and eventually it might even clog up your engine instead of lubricating it. Fortunately, there's an easy fix to that: regular oil changes. Just change your oil every six months, or every 7,500 miles (whichever comes first). Schedule an appointment with our service center, and we'll have your oil changed in no time at all.
